At Faking It Mobile Spray Tans we only use Fake Bake tanning products for a longer lasting, brown, even tan. With the history and science behind them it's easy to see why we can guarantee you the most natural looking tan.
Fake Bake originated in the U.S.A. in 1995. Fake Bake was the first self-tan to combine naturally derived tanning agents DHA and Erythulose – guaranteeing longer lasting (up to 50% longer), more natural-looking results. The retail range was an instant success with beauty experts and celebrities alike. Accolades and endorsements quickly followed. However, what really triggered the rapid rise of the Fake Bake Phenomenon was when the range was voted No.1 self-tanner (tested against 22 other self-tans) in the influential New York Times.
In 2001, salon owner Sandra McClumpha introduced Fake Bake to the UK, where she developed Fake Bake into a premium spa/salon treatment and convenient, flawless spray tan. Beauty Therapists were trained to exceptional high standards in the application of Fake Bake to ensure customers expectations were exceeded. Fake Bake constantly strives to develop products to meet the requirements of evermore informed customers. Recent developments made by our in-house laboratories in the use of advanced botanical ingredients has enabled us to remove Parabens and artificial preservatives from our products, introduce added skincare benefits like anti-ageing, anti-cellulite and antioxidants, and develop products tailored for specific skin-tones. For the first time there’s a totally safe tanning regime tailored to the individual’s requirements. This perpetual investment in Research and Development means that Fake Bake will always be at the fore-front of sunless tanning technology for years to come.

Parabens are a group of synthetic chemicals widely used as preservatives in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. Studies have found that the biggest risk from parabens seems to be from the use of products that require a prolonged exposure to skin. The longer that parabens are on the skin, the more opportunity there is for them to be absorbed. When used in skin care products, parabens are absorbed directly into the blood stream. One type of paraben - methylparaben - has also been linked to the premature ageing of skin. A study undertaken in Japan indicated that certain cosmetic products may cause skin to age excessively when exposed to ultra-violet rays. Some tests have indicated that parabens have caused an increase in oestrogen which can possibly affect the male and female reproductive organs. Some studies in men have shown that a low sperm count and a decrease in testosterone are directly related to the intake of parabens. One of the biggest areas of concern is the effect of parabens on breast cancer. Several studies have found traces of parabens in women with breast cancer. There seems little doubt that parabens can affect breast tissue - but whether they actually increase the possibility of breast cancer is still uncertain.

Self-tanning occurs in the top layers of your skin called the Epidermis. The Epidermis is also made up of layers. The Stratum Corneum (or Horny Layer) is the layer affected by self-tan products.
The Fake Bake Original Self-Tan products contain the naturally derived, premium tanning agents DHA and Erythulose.
Although DHA has been used in self-tans since the 1970’s, it wasn’t until the late 1980’s that cosmetic companies found a way to produce better results (browner, less orange) with DHA. This is attributed to an improved refining process yielding higher quality, more predictable DHA. Fake Bake only uses the most premium DHA throughout all our self-tans. Premium DHA interacts with the amino acid- Keratin (more commonly known as ‘dead’ or `cornified` skin cells) that lie in the top layers of your skin (the Stratum Corneum or Horny Layer). This tan develops rapidly, but is also most temporary as your skin cells are worn away.
Effectively, DHA and Erythrulose do the same thing – they react with Amino Acids to turn your skin brown. Eruthrulose is a Ketose which also reacts with the amino acid - Keratin. This reaction leads to the formulation of brownish coloured polmers called Melanoids. Erythulose used on its own has to be applied daily, and it never develops a dark tan. However, when combined with DHA, they work together to reduce streaking and miscolouring for a natural looking tan. They also make your tan last longer and fade perfectly evenly for a continuously natural appearance.
Exfoliate and moisturise the night before your tan. Pay particular attention to dry areas such as knees, elbows and ankles. Wax/shave at least 24 hours before your tan to allow pores time to close.
Do not use moisturiser on the day of your tan. If you must use moisturiser it must be oil free.
Remove make-up, deodorant, perfume and creams prior to having your tan.
Wear underwear/a bikini or swimsuit, or anything else you feel comfortable in for your treatment.
Wear loose dark clothing after your tan. Any tight clothing may cause streaks.
Do not shower or bath for 6-8 hours (the development period). The longer you leave it the darker the tan will develop.
Do not exercise or swim during the development period, as sweating or prolonged exposure to water will fade your new tan.
Try not to touch your skin during these after tan hours. Your palms can become coloured.
Moisturise, moisturise, mositurise with an oil free moisturiser. This helps to keep your tan for longer.
